Kate Tykocki Snyder, APR: PR Consultant

Kate has built her career on building consensus and relationships with media, community organizations, clients and stakeholders.

In 2005, she was the youngest professional in the nation to receive the prestigious Accreditation in Public Relations from the Universal Accreditation Board. In 2010, she was named by Greater Lansing Woman as one of the 10 most influential women on Twitter. In 2012, she was recognized by the Lansing Regional Chamber and Grand River Connection as one of its “10 Over the Next Ten: The Next Generation of Business Leaders.”

Now a communications consultant, Kate works with clients ranging from government agencies to entrepreneurial start-ups to help them tell their stories. She specializes in incorporating digital media into traditional public relations practices. In addition to teaching Advertising, Digital Media and Consumer Behavior at Lansing Community College and Sienna Heights University, Kate has spoken at conferences around the country on social media, community relations and media relations with a customer service attitude. Kate’s background in leadership and coalition building in have honed her collaborative approach to problem solving and her background in strategy work helps her to understand clients needs as she represents them in the community.

She is also co-founder of the blog Domestic Slice,, a nationally focused lifestyle blog launching in October 2012. She is responsible for content creation on the topics of craft, food, home+garden, style and design, as well as social media profiles for the blog including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. In October 2012, she was invited to be an online panelist for Martha Stewart Living’s new Living Room.

Prior to launching her own business, Kate served as Vice President of Communications at CiesaDesign, where she was Ciesa’s official storyteller – helping to share clients’ and the company’s successes and focusing on enhancing the customer experience to create evangelists for the CiesaDesign brand.

For nearly eight years, she served as Chief Communications Officer at Capital Area Michigan Works!, a $20+ million government workforce development agency, where she received local and regional recognition in crisis communications for the 2005 collapse of Capital Area Michigan Works!’ Lansing Service Center. While there, she built an award-winning communications program ranging from local public relations to national legislative advocacy. During her tenure as CCO, she worked with U.S. News and World Report, USA Today, National Public Radio, CNN, the New York Times and international media outlets from France, Japan and Denmark to aid the State of Michigan Governor’s Office in telling the story of the decline of the auto industry and Michigan’s recession.

In addition to serving as CCO, she served as Marketing and Public Relations Director and Interim Director of the Capital Healthcare and Employment Council. Prior to joining Capital Area Michigan Works!, Kate served as production manager at Lezotte Miller Public Relations where she managed more than 30 client accounts in law, higher education, association, manufacturing and other industries.

Kate currently serves as a National Assemble Delegate of the Central Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and is a Past President. She also sits on the boards of Impression 5 Science Center and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing and volunteers with a number of greater Lansing nonprofits including Junior Achievement, the Capital Area District Library, the Capital Region Community Foundation and many local theaters. In 2009, she helped to incorporate the education-focused nonprofit Keep Learning… Our Future Depends On It and is still an active volunteer.

Kate holds a Master’s of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications from Eastern Michigan University. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University.
